Inauguration Hilde Mangold Haus

Online via Zoom

Dr. Hilde Mangold, Pioneer of Biological Signalling Research

During this event, the Cluster of Excellence CIBSS - Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies - and the University of Freiburg celebrate the renaming and dedication of the laboratory building Habsburgerstr. 49 in Freiburg to the CIBSS Cluster. The building will be named after Hilde Mangold, co-discoverer of the famous embryonic “organizer” signaling center. The young scientist Hilde Mangold is a memorable figure in the history of signalling science. One hundred years ago, she had just finished her PhD thesis in Freiburg. Today, her work is seen as one of the most important publications in biology. Get to know Mangold’s History and immerse yourself in 1920’s Freiburg. After a presentations of Prof. Dr. Carola Hunte on CIBSS, and by developmental biologist Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Driever on Hilde Mangold’s and her graduate supervisor Hans Spemann’s life and legacy, we will premier a video about the building and the researchers in it. Jun Prof. Dr. Sjon Hartman and Prof. Dr. Björn Lillemeier are both working in the Hilde Mangold House and will present their research topics in short talks. The event will be supported by an act of the Bad Mouse Orchestra from Freiburg, featuring music of the Swing and Charleston era.

The event will be in English and is open to the public.
