Transcription factors typically control the expression of target genes by recognition of conserved promoter sequences, but it is often unclear how specific transcription factors are recruited to RNA polymerase to facilitate transcription. Here we show that the plant MEDIATOR subunit MED25 recruits so-called ERFVII transcription factors under low-oxygen conditions to control transcription of ERFVII-target genes.
